In support of the Federal Communication Commission’s efforts to deliver a National Broadband plan to Congress in February 2010, the FCC is announcing the first in a series of staff workshops. The public can participate in person at the Commission headquarters, or online. Registration is required, see http://www.broadband.gov/ws_egov.html for details.

Speakers include, among others, Vivek Kundra, U.S. CIO and former Washington, D.C CTO . His topics will include

· Insight into how his “IT Dashboard” and “Apps for Democracy” increased civic participation and made the government more efficient.

· How government investments in cloud computing and telepresence might result in improved performance while accelerating American broadband leadership.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which was signed into law on February 17, 2009, directed the FCC to submit a National Broadband Plan to Congress by February 16, 2010 that “shall seek to ensure that all people of the United States have access to broadband capability and shall establish benchmarks for meeting that goal.”
